Support for really bad Internet

I used to live in Africa, where slow (< 200 bytes/s) and very intermittent (breaking every couple of minutes) Internet and old tiny computers are the norm. Given that background, please consider:
[list][*]Keeping a minimal interface that goes well with tiny screens.
[*]Present a bootstrap download: a really small program that people can download by trial and error, that will then download the real FDM for them.
[*]Add upload support. Uploading e.g. an email attachment to a webmail service may take days of trying.[/list]Thanks for a great product (and a life-saver in Africa).
